    Oregon Motorcycle Riders Association

OMRA – The Oregon Motorcycle Riders Association is a statewide organization that represents off-road riders. They keep in contact with the various state, federal and local agencies to keep our riding areas open. They sanction Cross Country, GP and Dual Sport events and most recently have become the provider of youth safety evaluation to help insure that our kids continue to ride on public lands.

After 3 consecutive successful seasons on a BMP Husqvarna® TXC511, then a BMP Husqvarna® TXC310 (2 years), Mark Johnson decided to go 2 stroke again with a Gas Gas EC300. His first race of the year was March 22, 2015. As usual he took the EC300 to 1st 50 Expert at the Eddieville GP. A few pics of Mark having some BMP GasGas racing fun!!

BMP and other Husqvarna® riders had a great year in the 2103 OMRA Racing Series.

Mark Johnson 3peated at OMRA GP 50 Expert #1 on his BMP/Watson Suspension TXC310R

http://tjborr.blogspot.com/ for some season highlights.

Nelson Lyon, also on a TXC310R jumped into the 50 Expert fray after winning 50 Am last year. Nelson ended up #3 GP.

Tyler Foley spent most of the summer at PIR and other MX tracks on his CR125, but he showed up at the Shedd Summer GP to run away from the field.

And a hat tip to Paul Salvatori who won the Beginner GP class on his TXC450 out of our friend Tom Watson’s shop in Hood River.

Friend of Bill’s Tom Bean did a find job on the XC side, #3 in 40 Am and earned a bump to Expert….Im sure if he wasnt riding that orange bike he would have made it to #1! We’ll get him upgraded before long.

Great job everyone.

Friend of Bill’s, Walter Hauserman retired owner of Old European Inn here in Salem brought us cabbage pie, salami sandwiches and cucumber salad fresh from his garden.

Kevin Russell saw this little jewel of a 1981 CB650 Honda® on our site ,bought it and a month later flew out here and rode it home trouble free in less than a week.

Yes we went racing last weekend. Of course we won ! It may have been the magic sweatshirt.

It can get lonely out front all by yourself….

Round 2 of the OMRA GP series was put on by Northwest Offroad Racing Assoc at the Prineville Adventure Park, March 23, 2013. In prior years this race has been held several weeks later, and battling severe dust was an issue. This year we just had to drive over ice covered roads so we could huddle up in 23 degree weather while waiting to race! The dirt however was just-right moist, making for excellent racing conditions.

The 50 Expert group got off the line around 10 after various delays (and after the sun had pushed the temps above freezing). Pretty much all the best riders were there for this event, but it didnt matter. Mark took a commanding lead on the first 30 minute loop, after starting in the back of the pack. Seems that some guys got a bit lost shortly after the start and lost quite a bit of time, however it didnt make much difference because Mark continued to stretch the lead by a couple minutes per loop all the way to the end.

This was terrain close to home for Mark and an excellent course for the mighty 310R. We are still running stock engine and exhaust while we wait for the FMF header and a chance to download the ‘open’ pipe map.

Mark wasnt the only BMP guy to do well. Nelson, in his second expert race dueled with the second place 50 Expert pack until he got diverted into the weeds during an attempted pass ….. its tough to get around a couple of crafty old guys. Great ride and improving fast. From Nelson:

I was in a pack of three for second place and we rode about a lap and a half that way until I got a little off course and fell behind a little more. On the last lap I missed a corner and saw another 50ex go by me, ……so I wicked it up and caught this rider. We were pretty even on our pace and I finally found a place to get by him and that was on an uphill two track that had a rocky right lane, I had to take it to go around so I pinned it and got the pass. After the end of the race he pulls up beside me and said “man you blew by me on that uphill, what size is that?” It’s a 310

I absolutely love this bike,

Tim Troffer showed up on his 165 WB in blue and yellow livery, and the new Husky guy Paul S soldiered to the end for second Beginner with a flat rear tire…felt a little squirrely he said :)

Thanks to also to Watson Performance Suspension, Zip-Ty, Motosportz and Husqvarna® NA for their support of the BMP riders.

OMRA Membership and Points Director (and Friend of Bill’s) got us these pictures of local Husqvarna® riders enjoying the evening. Snazzy red jackets courtesy of Husqvarna® Motorcycles NA and NW Husqvarna® Rep Jason Dahners. Bill threw in gift certificates for the award winning Husky riders in attendance.

Lonny Johnson rode his TXC511 last year to 3rd in GP 50AM, in spite of missing several events due to a broken wrist early in the season. Lonny will ride the TXC511 and a TE250 next year at a variety of GP/XC and Dual Sport events, including the Husqvarna® sponsored AMA Black Dog and Fort Rock DS rides.

Luke Bennett slogged his way to 3rd XC 40AM in 2011 aboard an XR400 Honda. He is now riding a ’11 TE250 Husqvarna® for the 2012 season.

Tyler Foley cleaned up in the Junior Expert XC class in 2011 early and started riding a WR125/144 Husqvarna® to keep himself entertained at the last couple of events of 2011. He should do well his first year on the full size bike.

Greg King and Tom Haugen both rode several event ons WR250s last year, but werent able to make it to the banquet, not to mention the Father and Son Stiff Duo, Jake Metteer, Motosportz Kelly, Richard Mello, “Husky” Bob Davis and myriad Husky riders who showed up at Poker Runs and other OMRA events.
